A look a Leitrim

Amy Baker

Property in County Leitrim, located in the Border Region and flanked by County Roscommon and County Cavan, is receiving increasing interest, thanks largely to it being some of the cheapest real estate in Ireland. One of the area’s other appeals is its proximity to the border with Northern Ireland, which British owners can hop across for access to the UK high street shops and the NHS.

Another attraction of Leitrim, which is accessible from the UK via flights to Knock Ireland West, Dublin and Belfast, are Ireland’s Lakelands, a beauty spot with numerous clean, fish-packed lakes and especially popular with fishermen. The Shannon-Erne waterway, Europe’s longest inland navigable waterway which stretches from Enniskillen in Northern Ireland to Limerick, also passes close by, enabling all sorts of water activities, including kayaking or river-boating. For lovers of the outdoors and unspoilt natural scenery, Leitrim is an ideal second home destination.

Towns for consideration by property-hunters in County Leitrim could be Carrigallen, Ballinamore, Mohill, Carrick-on-Shannon and Keshcarrigan. Or hop next-door to County Cavan and visit Belturbet and Ballyconnell, or to County Roscommon where you’ll find villages such as Cootehall.
